Boost your Christmas sales

If you have on online store, Christmas represents a wonderful opportunity to boost your sales, end the year on a profitable note, and surprise and delight your ecommerce customers – new and old. In this blog, we’ll share our top tips on how your business can have a very merry festive season. Follow these recommendations to enjoy your best-ever Christmas, and create momentum to carry you into 2025 and beyond.

Build on Black Friday and Cyber Monday

The retail calendar can get quite congested at this time of year, but you can use this sequence of special shopping days to your advantage. All it takes is some careful planning, a strategic approach and great communication.

You’ve already worked hard to boost your sales in the run-up to the most important quarter of the year, so now it’s time to build on this foundation and keep that can-do energy alive in your business. One way to do this might be to offer exclusive discount codes or offers to existing customers to thank them for their loyalty. After all, it’s much more cost-effective to keep a customer than find a new one.

Keep Christmas special

If you can, offer complimentary gift wrapping as an option, or use Christmas-themed packaging to spread the Christmas cheer. This will bring a smile to people’s faces, and will let them know that you care about your customers as individuals, and that you’re in tune with what’s important to them.

Try creating bundles of popular products – this gives buyers a perception of enhanced value and convenience, and helps to streamline your fulfilment processes.

You can also experiment with value-added services at this time of year – offering free shipping for a limited time (or lowering your cart value threshold for free shipping) is another great way to differentiate your ecommerce business from your competitors during the festive season.

Keep on top of your inventory

Use sales data from previous years and do some research online to help you anticipate which will be your biggest-selling items this Christmas. Make sure that you have enough stock to meet demand, because nothing frustrates potential customers more than items being sold out. At the same time, try not to overstock festive items as you will only be able to sell any remaining stock at a deep discount once we’re into January (either that, or you’ll have to find a place to store them until Christmas 2025). Top tip: Bob Go’s order management tools let you manage inventory in real-time across multiple online platforms.

Unlock the power of your database

By carefully segmenting your customer database, you can send customers more relevant offers and updates. People are far more likely to pay attention to content that promotes what they are already interested in. Similarly, remarketing (or adverts that ‘follow’ people from website to website as they browse online) can help to trigger purchases of items that people have already looked at.

Customer service worth celebrating

In addition to loads of choice and great deals, offering outstanding customer service can really help your online store to stand out and boost your Christmas ecommerce sales. For example, make your returns policy as clear as possible, and make easy for people to return items. Yes, you may have ‘lost’ a sale, but you’ll probably also have gained a loyal customer for the future.

Offer the power of choice

We’ve all had those moments where we need to buy someone a gift, but have absolutely no idea what to get them. Stocking vouchers or gift cards lets people give their friends or family the option as to what to buy and boosts your reputation for being a great ecommerce store.

Be a socials butterfly

Last but definitely not least, harness the potential of social media channels to deepen your connection with your fans, join the conversation, and connect with more people.
